AI's Promise for Better health care

In all these situations, time is not just important—it saves lives. Now, these scenarios are set to become a reality in healthcare environments throughout B.C. and Canada, thanks to the artificial intelligence tools being developed and implemented by UBC's new AI and Health Network.

"These are no longer far-off possibilities; we're creating them today with AI models ready to meet the health needs of Canadians," stated network co-leader Dr. Raymond Ng, professor of computer science at UBC. "Whether it's earlier disease diagnosis, enhanced access to care, or speeding up drug development, this network is unlocking AI's potential to create efficiencies in health systems, support providers, and deliver better care for patients."

Launched today with the backing of a $22.5-million donation from the Gordon B. Shrum Charitable Fund, the UBC AI and Health Network unites researchers, clinicians, and health system partners to apply Canadian-developed AI solutions to the challenges faced by patients and health systems.
