WORKING ALONGSIDE icare How to Lawfully Operate a Non-Registered Support Service in NSW

Writing By Shannon Leslie Byrne

Purpose of This Book

For injured workers and their families in New South Wales, the icare system can seem daunting, confusing, and impersonal. The letters are complex, processes are inflexible, and decisions are often delayed or poorly communicated. Many individuals end up feeling unheard, unsupported, and powerless.

Meanwhile, numerous advocates, peer supporters, and community organizations wish to assist but fear they might "break the rules" or be forced into registration that they neither need nor can afford.

This book aims to clarify an essential truth:

You can assist those involved with icare without being an icare provider — if you understand the legal boundaries and act ethically.

This is not a guide to avoiding regulation. It is a guide to understanding where regulation begins and ends.
